Irish Food & Drink Showcases in Macau & Hong Kong
Macau & Hong Kong collectively serve as a 'shop window' for China & the region, as well as markets in their own right with 80 million visitors last year. Working closely with Europe's oldest culinary institute (Cathal Brugha Street - part of DIT), we have organised a week-long series of events in Macau & Hong Kong to promote Irish food & to build lasting links with local culinary schools.
Events in Macau & Hong Kong are being organised to promote Irish seafood, beef & dairy products as well as Irish whiskey & craft beers. This initial series of events, the first of their type in Hong Kong & Macau, will provide an excellent platform for the major Irish food & drink promotions being planned for March 2016.
Connections with future industry leaders is an important element of this project. This week, young chefs in the culinary schools in Macau & Hong Kong are being given the opportunity to work with Dr Máirtin Mac Con Iomaire of the School of Culinary Arts & Food Technology.
Noted Irish Whiskey author, Fionnán O' Connor is also in Macau & Hong Kong this week at the invitation of the Consulate, sharing his expert knowledge of the history, current position & future of Irish whiskey. As part of his visit, he is delivering the very first classes on Irish whiskey to students in the local culinary schools as well as more experienced industry professionals.
On this initiative, the Consulate is working closely with DIT, the Irish Chambers of Commerce of Hong Kong & Macau as well as a range of other partners.
