Death of former Taoiseach Albert Reynolds

It was with sadness that we learned of the passing of Albert Reynolds, former Taoiseach (Prime Minister) of Ireland on Thursday 21 August. A State Funeral will take place in Dublin on Monday 25 August. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

Mr. Reynolds was Taoiseach from February 1992 to December 1994. He also held a number of ministerial posts during his career, including that of Minister for Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Reynolds will perhaps be most remembered for his role in bringing peace to Northern Ireland, particularly his negotiation of the 1993 Downing Street Declaration, which in turn laid the ground for the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.

A book of condolence will be available at the Embassy on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 August, from 10am to 12 noon and from 2pm to 4pm.

An online book of condolence is also available here. [link no longer available]
