San Francisco Pride Parade 2015
On the 28 June, Consul General Philip Grant and the Irish Consulate team received the great honour of marching with the Mayor of San Francisco and the Irish Pipers at the head of the San Francisco Pride Parade 2015, along with the IDA and Enterprise Ireland teams, Irish community leaders, and J1 students.
Mayor Lee invited the Irish Consulate and community to march in recognition for the Irish people’s whole-hearted ‘Yes’ for Marriage Equality.
Prior to the parade, the Consul General had the opportunity to address the official pre-Pride breakfast. He spoke of Ireland’s pride of our J1 students and sent thanks for the immense support from the people of San Francisco and the Bay Area following the Berkley tragedy.
The Consul General had the great honour of carrying the pride flag which belongs to one of the J1 students injured in the Berkley incident.
He delivered the following remarks: “I doubt anything else I will do in my time here will mean as much as holding that flag and remembering and celebrating the lives of those who couldn't march with us today”.
The Consulate would like to thank our friends at the San Francisco Pride Parade for the opportunity to be a part of this exceptional event.
