1916 Reenactment and St Patricks Day Celebrations
1916 Reenactment and St Patricks Day Celebrations
16th - 20th March
This year’s St Patricks Day parade in Buenos Aires, will have commemoration at its centre, marking both the bicentennial of the Argentine Declaration of Indpendence, as well as the Easter Rising. The festivities will include a parade and a re-enactment of events at the GPO on Easter Monday 1916. The character of Argentine-born Eamon Bulfin, who raised the tricolour over the GPO on Easter Monday 1916, will be central to the commemoration.
The parade and open air concert in Plaza San Martin are organised by the Admiral Brown Argentine-Irish Society and take place on 19th March with the support of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires. The Embassy will be supporting and attending other commemorative events coinciding with St Patricks Day, organised by Irish associations throughout Buenos Aires province and further afield.
This year, the Embassy is delighted to bring to Buenos Aires a visiting group of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Eireann musicians drawn from County Westmeath who will perform at various events.
