Ambassador Sheehan will open a solo exhibition of Irish Architecture firm McCullough Mulvin at the Galerie Architektury in Brno, Czech Republic on 6 September 2016. The exhibition will run until 2 October 2016.

The traditional Bernard's Summer School will take place in Prague from 13 to 19 August 2016. Bernard’s Summer School (BSS) is a week long international educational event which has been held annually in Prague for the past 15 years. It has been founded and organised by Václav Bernard and his family who are well known popularisers of Irish dancing and Irish culture in the Czech Republic.

Bust of Václav Havel Unveiled at Dáíl Éireann (Irish Parliament)

The Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett TD unveiled a bust of former Czech President Václav Havel at Dáil Éireann (Irish Parliament) in Dublin, Ireland. This is the first time the Irish Parliament has accepted a bust of a foreign head of state and it will be located on a plinth in the Committee Rooms' reception area at Government Buildings.

The 7th Annual Delaney Academy Prague Feis will be held from 30 to 31 May at Tyršův dům in the Lesser Quarter (Malá Strana) in Prague. The feis, which is run by the Rinceoirí Irish dance group, is an international competition open to all dancers from all regions.
Night of Literature

The Night of Literature is an event organised by the Czech Centres in cooperation with EUNIC and Book World Festival in Prague. It aims at presentation of contemporary European literature in new translation into Czech to the broad public. The event, which will include a reading of The Master by Colm Tóibín, will take place on 13 May, on the eve of Book World Festival in over 20 venues in the Prague 6 Dejvice district. The venues are within walking distance and one reading (performed by a popular Czech actor/actress) takes about 30 mins. For further information visit the literature night website.
Book Launch – The Irish Franciscans in Prague

Irish May Festival

The Irish May festival will traditionally take place during the first weekend in May (1-3 May) in the Celetná Theatre in Prague (www.divadlovceletne.cz). The programme will comprise dance and theatre performances, a literary reading and a workshop. Special guest of the festival will be Irish dancer Colin Dunne, best known for his dancing performance and choreographic art in shows Riverdance and Dancing on Dangerous Ground. The Embassy participated in the Be International Fest, an international student festival focusing on foreign students in Prague, the first festival of its kind. The event took place on Střelecký Island in the city centre and was attended by about 2,000 students, both foreign and Czech.
Irish Theatrical Diaspora Conference

Irish Musicians at Czerish Festival

The Czerish Festival introduced Matthew Devereux and Shane Wearen of The Pale. The concert took place on Wednesday, 27 August on the well-known “Tajemství” boat, which anchors on the Vltava riverbank in the centre of Prague and hosts various cultural events every summer. The lively atmosphere of the concert was further enhanced by a couple of young Czech musicians, who joined Devereux and Wearen for a couple of songs.

On 29 April 2014, Ambassador Kelly hosted a bilingual reading of Seamus Heaney’s work in tribute to the poet. The event was introduced by Ondřej Pilný and Justin Quinn of the Centre for Irish Studies, Charles University, and a selection of Heaney’s recent work was translated for the occasion by Daniel Soukup, also of Charles University.

European Union, Czechia, and Slovakia: Common Security Future
Ambassador Kelly delivered opening remarks at a conference held on 28 April 2014 in the Czech Parliament commemorating the tenth anniversary of Czech and Slovak membership of the EU. There were 250 participants, including senior representation from the Government, Parliament, diplomatic and foreign policy community.
The Embassy also participated in the celebrations organised by the European Commission Office on an island in central Prague on 29/30 April and maintained an information booth, distributing information material on Ireland.

The event attracted over 6000 visitors and featured live music in Bernie’s Irish Pub and Baxters’ club on Stodolní Street, as well as Irish theatre (The Cripple of Inishmaan, Petr Bezruc Theatre, Ostrava), literature and film.

Production company “Studio hrdinů” in cooperation with the Embassy has produced a video installation featuring a reading of NOT I by Samuel Beckett.
The video installation was shown during special “lecturer days” in the Veletržní Palace, National Gallery, Prague between January and March and in the multi-functional Gong building in Ostrava on 19 May, 2014.
