Ireland-Lithuania Relations

Ireland and Lithuania enjoy close and very amicable relations.  The Embassy’s role is to ensure that these grow even stronger.

Ireland and Lithuania have a close and friendly relationship. Having never recognised the annexation of Lithuania, diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1991; Lithuania opened its resident Embassy in Ireland in 2003, while Ireland opened its Embassy in Lithuania in 2005.

Our shared membership of the European Union, and now also of the Eurozone, the group of states that share the Euro currency, we have not only strong ties but also a significant role to play in the development of Europe as a zone of peace and stability. We collaborate closely in the EU and other fora to help bring this about, and to share our values with the rest of the world.

The significant number of Lithuanian citizens living in Ireland gives an additional, distinctive aspect to our relationship and the development of strong ties on a person-to-person level will help to cement our relations long into the future.

Trade between Ireland and Lithuania was €110 million in total in 2013. A number of Irish companies are represented in Lithuania, including Smurfit Kappa Baltic, Ryanair, Grafton Recruitment and TaxBack.com. The Embassy is constantly engaged in ways to enhance the trade and investment relationship between Ireland and Lithuania.
