Lecture by Dr Fearghal McGarry, historian, writer and lecturer
A lecture by the prominent Irish writer and historian Dr Ferghal McGarry was held on Wednesday 20 April 2016 in the European School in Kirchberg. It was a great success with over 200 attendees. Before the lecture there was music and a display of Irish dancing by members of the Luxembourg Comhaltas Ceoltóirí.
Earlier that day Dr McGarry also gave an extremely interesting talk to students from both European schools (Kirchberg and Mamer). The interest was so high that they had to change to a larger venue from the one that they had planned to use.
On Saturday 16 April the Gaelic Sports Club of Luxembourg hosted a major European hurling and camogie competition. The hurling competition was won by a very strong team from Brussels and the camogie was won by a most skillful team from Amsterdam. The locals performed very well with the men coming third and the women putting in some very strong performances and with some new players they will be a force to be reckoned with in coming tournaments.
The final event in the Luxembourg 1916 Centenary Programme was a special screening of the film 1916 The Irish Rebellion which took place in the Cinematique, a very special cinema in the center of the city.
