90 Years of Ireland-U.S. Diplomatic Relations – A Celebration
Tuesday October 7 marked the 90th anniversary of Ireland-U.S. diplomatic relations. Prof. Timothy A. Smiddy presented his credentials as Ambassador (Minister Plenipotentiary) of the Irish Free State to President Coolidge on that date in 1924.
Washington D.C. Visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade Mr. Charles Flanagan T.D.
A series of events to celebrate the anniversary began with the visit to Washington D.C. by the Minister for Foreign Affairs & Trade Mr. Charles Flanagan T.D. on Tuesday September 30. Minister Flanagan spoke at a special reception held in Ambassador Anderson’s official residence to mark the occasion.
Free Open-Air Traditional Irish Music & Dance Celebration: Dupont Circle Park, Sunday October 5th
On Sunday October 5th from 2-4 p.m., the Embassy, in conjunction with Dupont Festival, The Dupont Circle Hotel, Tourism Ireland and Comhaltas Ceoltórí Éireann O’Neill-Malcom branch, was delighted to present a free open-air traditional Irish music and dance celebration at Washington D.C.’s famous Dupont Circle Park.
Performers will be drawn from the cream of local Irish music and dancing talent, including the Irish Inn Mates & Friends, and the Bog Band and Brian Gaffney, as well as dancers from the Culkin School of Traditional Irish Dance and Shannon Dunne Dance. A seminar on the First Decades of Irish Diplomacy in America was held at the Embassy on Tuesday October 7 with participation by Irish and U.S. academics.
