Dear Ireland is an Abbey Theatre production supported by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and the Arts Council featuring Irish artists, writers and actors in 50 self-taped performances which brings the Irish theatre community together virtually during this challenging period.
During this period when the Irish theatre community cannot physically come together, 50 Irish writers were asked to write theatrical pieces to start a national conversation by asking the questions: what do we want to be to one another; what do we want our society to look like; what are we not paying enough attention to; and where do we want to go next? Dear Ireland asks writers to consider what Ireland should write on a postcard to itself.
Each writer nominated one actor to perform their piece, and the actors self-taped their performances from social isolation.

About the Abbey Theatre
The Abbey Theatre, also known as the National Theatre of Ireland is located in the centre of Dublin and is one of the country’s leading cultural institutions. It was founded by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory with the idea “to bring upon the stage the deepest emotions of Ireland” and opened its doors to the public in 1904 and despite losing its original building to a fire in 1951, it has remained active to the present day.
