Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad.

 

 

We are seeking to recruit resourceful, proactive and flexible individuals for a short-term opportunity to support Ireland’s participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

 

These temporary positions are offered on a fixed-term basis, to cover activities related to Ireland’s participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The position is full-time (35 hours) with attendance being linked to the match schedule.

 

Ireland will play matches as follows:

 

Republic of Ireland      v Australia on Thursday 20 July in Sydney

                                    v Canada on Wednesday 26 July in Perth

                                    v Nigeria on Monday 31 July in Brisbane.

 

Depending on results there may be further matches in later rounds.

 

To allow for training and preparation, and for post-competition activities, the positions are foreseen to have 10 weeks’ duration.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Embassy and Consulate provide a wide range of services to Irish citizens including consular services on an ongoing basis. Consular assistance is help and advice provided to citizens who are living or traveling overseas. Such assistance may take the form of advice and support in the case of an accident, arrest or detention; support in case of serious illness or death; or the provision of replacement travel documents.

This is a public-facing role that requires daily interaction with a variety of stakeholders, including with people who may be undergoing a stressful episode and also with Australian officials in various services.

There is also an administrative element to the role with good documentation of actions required.

The main responsibilities pertaining to the role are:

  • Assist in the provision of consular assistance to Irish citizens and the delivery of consular services
  • Assist members of public with queries in accordance with the Department of Foreign Affairs Consular Charter
  • Support the different streams of work undertaken by the Embassy/Consulate in supporting Ireland’s participation in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
  • General administration duties and other duties as directed by management

 

Essential Requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

 

  • Strong attention to detail, organisational and communication skills
  • Experience in customer service and dealing with people empathetically
  • Flexibility and ability to work within a team and autonomously
  • Experience of administration tasks and procedures
  • Familiarity with Australian public services
  • Fluency in English
  • The legal right to work in Australia. 

 

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in any of the following:

 

  • Consular work
  • Work within an Embassy or Consulate
  • Emergency response
  • Social work, or community outreach

 

All applicants must have a permanent legal right to reside and work in Australia.

 

 

Terms and conditions of employment:

  • The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed-term contract and will be based at Embassy of Ireland Canberra or the  Sydney Consulate General.
  • Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with standard office hours from 9.00 to 17.00
  • Annual Leave entitlement will be 22 days pro rata.
  • The salary for the position is AU$1,135 per week, paid locally on a weekly basis. Salaries are paid direct to a bank account, therefore, the successful candidate must have a bank account.

Depending on response rates the deadline may be extended.

 

Selection Process:

  • Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential/Key Requirements above.
  • It is planned that interviews will be held by video-conference at the beginning of May
  • A second interview may be included in the recruitment process; and
  • A panel may be established based on order of merit.

Security Clearance for Local Staff

Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again.
