St Brigid's Day in New South Wales

The first of February is St Brigid’s Day, Lá Féile Bríde, a day when the talent and creativity of Irish women is celebrated around the world. The Consulate General of Ireland is delighted to present an exciting programme of events in New South Wales to mark Brigid’s Day and this global celebration.
The untold stories of twenty Irish – Australian women who contributed to the shaping of Australia will be explored at a symposium at the State Library of New South Wales. The symposium, Aisling 20/20 Vision, is the culmination of a major research project by the Aisling Society, supported by the Consulate General and the State Library. It will be supported by an exhibition at the Saint Patrick’s Day Festival.
A cast of Irish and Australian artists will take to the stage for a celebration of the creativity of women through music, poetry and performance. With Gabrielle Carey (writer), Anne Casey (poet), Daniel Browning (writer and broadcaster), Aine de Paor (actor), Cliona Molins (harpist), Julie McFarland (vocalist) and more it promises to be a fantastic show. This wonderful performance is being staged at the State Library of New South Wales (01/02/20), the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre in Liverpool (08/02/20) and other venues.
The inaugural ‘Claire Foley Women in Business’ networking event brings together women of the Irish diaspora in business leadership roles. The event is named in memory of Dubliner Clare Foley (1975-2019), a leading Irish community member and business-person in Sydney.
