Minister Murphy visited Seoul on the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day to strengthen the relationship between Ireland and Korea and to promote Ireland as a partner for trade and investment with Korea.
During his visit, Minister Murphy spoke at the Irish Korean Business Network breakfast and visited some of the Korean companies working with Irish counterparts, and gave a number of media interviews outlining the existing strong trade links between Korea and Ireland, and highlighting the potential for further growth. He also delivered a lecture on the partnership between our two countries at the Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University, and laid a wreath at the Irish Memorial to those of Irish birth and heritage who died in the Korean War.

Minister Murphy also met with the Vice-Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Byeong-Suk Son during his visit, and the Vice-Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government Mr Joon-Byeong Yoon. Minister Murphy took part in the launch of the Greening of the Seoul landmark City Hall, and concluded his programme in Korea at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Reception, where over 250 guests from the Irish community and its Korean partners in business, government and academic institutions were present.
