31 January 2020 - 31 January 2020Venue: GIH, Lidingövägen 1, 11433 Stockholm
Time: 15.00 - 16.30
We hope to take this opportunity to bring Gaelic Games to a new audience. Footage of the games will be shown, followed by demonstrations by our visiting experts!
This event will showcase Irish and Swedish sportswomen who have made and are making outstanding contributions to their sports. We are delighted that Sinéad Aherne, Dublin Ladies Football Captain and both Ann & Angela Downey, Kilkenny Camogie Greats, will represent the Irish side. The Swedish side will include Liselotte Ohlsson, Head of Elite Sports at the Swedish Sports Confederation and a former Olympian, Ulrika Sandmark, Head Coach Swedish Swimming, and Annika Bilstam (winner of total 12 World Championship medals [6 individual and 6 relay] between 2007 and 2014 in orienteering).
Following the introduction to Gaelic Games, there will be a panel discussion exploring the common challenges women everywhere face in participating at the highest level in sports. Professor Arne Ljunqvist, one of Sweden’s best known sports personalities and former member of the IOC, will chair the panel discussions.
All are welcome from Gaelic Games enthusiasts to those who wish to experience these ancient Irish sports for the first time!
