Aug 12: Ambassador Byrne Nason Visits Irish Fest of Minnesota
News
25 August 2023Ambassador Byrne Nason with Consul General Byrne outside the Irish Consulate Pop Up stand.
The Ambassador's first stop was a meeting with the University of Minnesota to talk Irish Minnesota educational links, and how the American Conference for Irish Studies can work with Embassy and Consulates to explore Irish experience in economics, sciences, as well as literature and arts. From there, it was on to the Irish Fair and a spectacle of 700 volunteers supporting the wonderful family friendly Irish Fair of Minnesota. So many talented young musicians and dancers performing - the future of Irish America is indeed bright!
At the Center for Irish Music at Celtic Junction, there were visions of the next generation embracing Irish culture and heritage as it is passed on from musicians, dancers and historians. After an interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune during which Ambassador Byrne Nason discussed Ireland’s cultural connections to the Twin Cities and the future of our modern economic and social relationship, she had the opportunity to meet with Congressional friend of Ireland in Minnesota, Congresswoman Betty McCollum, proudly from Cork, Mayo and Limerick. Phenomenal musical, dance and sporting talent was enjoyed at the Fair over the weekend. Huge thanks to the organisers, volunteers and visitors to our Pop-Up Consulate, with all the great questions about Ireland!
