St Patrick's Day message
News
17 March 2022A chairde,
I hope this finds each of you well and you have had the opportunity to enjoy the longer and sunnier spring days over the past few weeks.
St Patrick’s Day is a day in which we celebrate Ireland, as well as the deep connections with the many friends of Ireland and Irish people worldwide. It’s a time to celebrate Irishness in all its diversity, as well as the strength of our community.
This St Patrick’s Day, we stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and acknowledge their resilience and courage. As the world witnesses and responds to the horrific actions being undertaken by Russia in Ukraine, we remember that we are best served when we come together. Germany and Ireland, along with our EU partners, will continue to work together for the safety, prosperity, peace and security of all, both here in Europe and elsewhere.
Here at the Consulate we have a lot planned for the months ahead. This year is the 50th anniversary of Ireland’s decision to join the European Union and we look forward to marking this milestone with partners across our consular area. We also hope you will join us at events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the publication of Ulysses and a first-ever Irish Community Festival during the summer months.
Our virtual St. Patrick’s Day reception will take place at 17:00 today, Thursday, March 17, in honour of Ireland’s national day. Our reception will be held online at - Frankfurt - this is Ireland - and will include contributions from An Taoiseach, Micheál Martin and a number of Irish artists who will showcase Ireland’s rich traditions of music and dance.
My team and I look forward to meeting many of you again in the months ahead.
Wishing you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day.
Anne Marie-Flynn
Consul General
